Rainy River First Nations
We were commissioned to create a set of 5 windows which we recently installed at the band office of Rainy River First Nations in Northern Ontario. The office asked us to custom create windows for the newly built head office. The first window was a stained glass piece based on the office’s view of the rainy river which frequently has pelicans and eagles fishing in it, so they were also included in the design. Next we made two windows for the front lobby that was our glass version of the band logo, complete with hand painted and sand blasted details and we even custom made glass beads strung on hand cut leather! Lastly we worked together with local artist KCPAWS to create the iconic Thunderbird and sun, set on a stormy background. KC did the original artwork in the woodland style and we then enlarged her artwork and made some slight revisions to allow us to render the design in glass. The thunderbird and sun feature fused, hand painted and sandblasted details. The background is a riot of colour which contrasts with the monochromatic storm clouds. This was a fun and in many ways challenging project, but as you know we are always up for a good challenge. The client loves the pop of colour and culture that the new artwork brings to their work space and we thank the Rainy River First Nations for entrusting us with this project.
